The disclosed transmission device-which generates a data signal by compressing a broadcast stream that has as configuring elements frames configured from broadcast packets comprising a header section, a data section, and an additional information section without being aware of the frame configuration of the broadcast stream and in a manner so that a reception device can replay the broadcast stream, and which transmits the data signal using a plurality of transmission packets-contains: a generating unit that, when a null packet, which is a type of broadcast packet, is present within the broadcast stream, compresses the broadcast stream-generating a data signal-by means of converting a section to be compressed, which is at least a part of the portion configured from the header section and the data section in the null packet, to a display information section that indicates the null packet and that has a smaller size than the size of the section to be compressed; and a transmission unit that transmits a data signal using a plurality of transmission packets. |
