When the drive unit gives and holds a first potential difference between a first pixel electrode and a first counter electrode, and a second potential difference between a second pixel electrode and a second counter electrode, the drive unit applies, first in a writing period, a first counter voltage VcomH to the first counter electrode and a second counter voltage VcomL to the second counter electrode and sets the voltage of a control signal SG to a first voltage V1. In a specific writing period, the drive unit temporarily sets the voltage of the control signal SG to a second voltage V2, applies a first image signal Vsig1L to a first signal line, and a second image signal Vsig2H to a second signal line.
