The end 3 of a tube 1 connected, as shown, to a hose pipe 6 is locked in position inside a second tube or a tubular part 2 on the end cap 5 of a suction cleaner, by a latching bar 11 mounted inside the tube, a flat spring 12 secured at 13 to the bar and at 14 to a deformed part 15 of the tube 1 serving both to prevent longitudinal movement of the bar and to press it outwardly whereby when the tube 1 is inserted the bar pivots about the push button end, and a detent 19 on the bar snaps behind a shoulder 8 on the tube 2, or a depression or the edge of a hole in the case of a second section of tube. To effect release, a button 23 is depressed whereupon the bar rocks about a projection 30 beyond the detent. To seal an opening 24 through which the push button passes, part of the tube is flattened and a sealing washer 28 held between the base of the button and a cupshaped washer 26 assumes a concave shape with its edges engaging the flat surface. In Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown) a C-shaped spring seated in a corrugation 10 is deformed where it passes under the latching bar the sides of which are notched to interlock with the spring.</p> |
