摘要 In order to estimate precisely the spectral characteristic of illumination from a multispectral image containing multi-wavelength information, without restricting the surface form of an object or the light environment during imaging, this illumination estimation device is equipped with: a target object area extraction means (501) that extracts from a multispectral image an object area, which is the area of an object that includes specular reflection; a distribution characteristic estimation means (502) that estimates, as a distribution characteristic (which is the characteristic of the manner of spreading, in the spectrum space, of observation values in the object region), information representing a partial space that approximates the distribution of the observation values in the spectrum space; a dimensionality reduction means (503) that, in accordance with a number of reduced dimensions predetermined by the light environment, selects a distribution characteristic to be used from the distribution characteristics estimated by the distribution characteristic estimation means (502); and an illumination estimation means (504) that, on the basis of the information for the partial space represented by the distribution characteristic selected by the dimensionality reduction means (503), estimates the spectral characteristic of the illumination.
