A vertical machining center (10) includes a partition door (36) that opens and closes to partition a machining area (12) and a setup area (42), and an openable-closable cover (90) to open and close the setup area (42). When the openable-closable cover (90) is open, an area of space exposed to the cutout portion (72) serves as a part of an operator area to which an operator is accessible. When the openable-closable cover (90) is closed, the area of space serves as a part of a pallet rotation area of the pallet exchanger (40).
