PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for the improvement of gastrointestinal health, immunity, and growth performance of an offspring by directly intervening to a maternal diet.SOLUTION: The invention provides a composition for use in the improvement or maintenance of gastrointestinal health or function of the offspring of a maternal animal by administering to a maternal animal, the composition comprising at least one glucan, at least one fucan, or at least one glucan and at least one fucan; a method for improving or maintaining gastrointestinal health or function of the offspring of the maternal animal; and a method for administering the composition to the maternal animal in the amount corresponding to the amount for the administration of 3-50 mg of glucan and/or 2-40 mg of fucan per kg body weight to the maternal animal without requiring a direct treatment to each offspring.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
