The invention relates to melt spinnable copolymers from polyacrylonitrile (PAN), which can be produced using a copolymerization of acrylonitrile and alkoxy alkyl acrylate. Suitable additional comonomers are alkyl acrylates and vinyl esters. The invention further relates to a method for producing fibers or fiber precursors, in particular carbon fiber precursors, by means of melt spinning, wherein said copolymer is used. The invention further relates to fibers produced in this manner, in particular carbon fibers.
