PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flywheel system that prevents lubricating liquid leakage and seal wear.SOLUTION: A high speed flywheel system includes a flywheel 3 and a shaft 4. The flywheel is located within a chamber 6 within a housing. The chamber is evacuated and sealed by seal devices including a cavity containing a sealing liquid at a prescribed level. The housing is mounted on the shaft via a bearing arrangement including a bearing situated externally to the chamber. The sealing liquid is used to lubricate the bearing.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2a
