This driving burden estimation device is installed in a vehicle to estimate the driving burden on the driver of the vehicle and is provided with: a distance detection unit (11, 14) for detecting an inter-vehicle distance between the vehicle and another vehicle traveling ahead; a speed detection unit (12, 15) for detecting a traveling speed of the vehicle; a calculation unit (16) for calculating an inter-vehicle time, which is the time it will take for the vehicle to reach the current position of the other vehicle, on the basis of the inter-vehicle distance and the traveling speed; and a burden estimation unit (17, 22) for estimating a driving burden on the basis of the inter-vehicle time and the travelling speed, wherein during the estimation process, the estimate is made such that the driving burden becomes smaller as the traveling speed increases, provided that the inter-vehicle time remains the same. |
