Provided are a wear test device and a method, whereby the wear resistance of the upper cover rubber of a conveyor belt during actual use can be accurately predicted. The rotation speed of a rotating drum 7 having a rubber sample R attached to the outer peripheral surface thereof is set to a desired speed; the pressing load from a contact member 4 is set to a desired pressing load by using a weight member 5; a desired contact member 4, provided as the contact member 4, is selected from among a plurality of types of contact members 4a, 4b, 4c that have different specifications for a contact surface that comes in contact with the surface of the rubber sample R; the contact member 4 is attached to an arm section 3 constituting a pressing mechanism; the rotating drum 7 is rotated; the contact member 4 is pressed on to the surface of the rubber sample R, in a state whereby the contact member 4 is movable in a tangential direction relative to the rotation direction of the rotating drum 7; and the amount of pressing direction displacement of the contact member 4 that is pressing the surface of the rubber sample R is detected by a displacement sensor 9a. |
