PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compositions and methods useful in treating or suppressing diseases due to mitochondrial diseases, such as Friedreich's ataxia, Leber's Hereditary Optic Neuropathy, Kearns-Sayre Syndrome, and mitochondrial myopathy, encephalopathy, lactacidosis, stroke (MELAS), and modulating energy biomarkers in a subject.SOLUTION: The invention provides compounds useful in treating or suppressing mitochondrial diseases, and methods of using such compounds for modulating energy biomarkers.
