The present invention provides a metal composite carbon material that provides a large contact interface between a fluid and metal fine particles and that, when used as a catalyst, can exhibit high catalytic performance. The metal composite carbon material has a carbon skeleton and voids that form respective continuous structures and supports metal fine particles within a 10 μm or smaller continuous porous structure that has a structural period that is larger than 2 nm.
