PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for diagnosing abnormality in a PON protection system capable of previously checking abnormality in a redundant OSU, and a PON protection system.SOLUTION: The method for diagnosing abnormality in a PON protection system is a method for diagnosing abnormality in a PON protection system in which a PON including a plurality of optical access networks having normal OSU 11 and ONU 50 connected in a point-to-multipoint mode is provided with a redundant OSU 12 functioning as a proxy for either of the normal OSUs 11 as selected by an optical switch 32. The optical switch 32 is provided with an abnormality diagnosis port in addition to a connection port for connection with the ONU 50, and, while the redundant OSU connection port and abnormality diagnosis port of the optical switch are connected, operation is started by letting the redundant OSU emit light while it is not emitting light, whereby abnormality in the redundant OSU is diagnosed using the abnormality diagnosis port. |
