The representations can then be used for identifying and creating new paths on the map.

A computer-implemented method for visualizing position data on a map, comprising: receiving position samples from a plurality of devices, each position sample comprising a location of a device from which the position sample is received; determining travel speeds of the plurality of devices from the position samples; filtering the position samples into filtered position samples based on the travel speeds of the devices; and generating, for display on the map, a plurality of representations for the filtered position samples, each representation visually indicating the location of a device that provided a filtered position sample.
