<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron transport material allowing low power consumption of an organic electroluminescent device. <P>SOLUTION: There is used as a constituent a 2,2'-substituted biphenyl derivative represented by general formula (1) (wherein, Ar<SP POS="POST">1</SP>represents phenyl, pyridyl or a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon of 2 to 4 rings; Ar<SP POS="POST">2</SP>and Ar<SP POS="POST">3</SP>represent each independently a hydrogen atom, phenyl or pyridyl, with the proviso that any one of Ar<SP POS="POST">1</SP>to Ar<SP POS="POST">3</SP>needs to be pyridyl; Ar<SP POS="POST">2</SP>and Ar<SP POS="POST">3</SP>is not pyridyl when Ar<SP POS="POST">1</SP>is pyridyl; and each of hydrogen atoms in the formula may independently be deuterium atom). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
