<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a drain trap by eliminating a trap breakage. <P>SOLUTION: The washing and drying machine includes: a drain valve 16 for draining washing water in a water tub 1; a drain passage 15 for draining washing water in the water tub through the drain valve to the outside of a housing 2; a circulation air path 24 for introducing drying air into the water tub; a blower 28 for blowing air to the circulation air path; dehumidifying means 26 for dehumidifying drying air from the water tub; heating means 29 for heating the drying air dehumidified by the dehumidifying means; a drying filter device 27 for capturing lint included in the drying air; pressure detection means 20 for detecting pressure in the water tub; and control means 31 for controlling washing and drying operations. The drain passage has a drain trap 21 that is formed into a substantially U shape in the housing.
