A communication system includes a calling terminal and a proxy call session control function (P-CSCF) in an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS). The calling terminal sends a service request message to the P-CSCF after the calling terminal is registered to the IMS. The P-CSCF receives the service request message and returns a network element invalid message to the calling terminal. The calling terminal initiates a registration according to the network element invalid message. By using the present invention, the service unavailable time is shortened, and user services can be recovered rapidly.
