PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emission element having a novel structure that can control the brightness, directivity or polarization characteristic of a light emission element using photoluminescence material, and a light emission device having the same.SOLUTION: A light emission device 300 has a light emission element 100 and an excitation light source element 180. The light emission element has a photoluminescence layer 110, a light transmissible layer 120 and a submicron structure. The submicron structure contains plural convex portions or plural concave portions. Light emitted from the photoluminescence layer contains first light having a wavelength of λin the air. When the distance between the adjacent convex portions or concave portions is represented by Dand the reflectivity of the photoluminescence layer to the first light is represented by n, the relationship of λ/n<D<λis satisfied. The excitation light source element emits excitation light to be introduced to the photoluminescence layer, and the light emission element and the excitation light source element are integrally formed with each other.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 31 |
