Provided are a method and a device for supplying metallic sodium to a hollow valve that can easily and quickly supply metallic sodium even to hollow portions of hollow valves with small diameter shafts without the surface thereof being oxidized. A workpiece 1, which is a semi-finished hollow engine valve for which a hollow portion 4 opens to the free end of a shaft 2, is disposed at a work position X such that an opening 4a faces up, a nozzle 7 is inserted into the opening 4a, and an inert gas is ejected from the nozzle 7, thereby supplying the inert gas to the inside of the hollow portion 4. Next, the nozzle 7 is raised and a holder 11 that holds metallic sodium 10 in bar form is disposed between the workpiece 1 and the nozzle 7. The metallic sodium 10 is forced into the hollow portion 4 of the workpiece 1 while the inert gas is being ejected from the nozzle 7. |
