The present invention provides an electronic device and a method for providing an IP network service in an electronic device wherein an application, which can connect an electronic device capable of supporting an IP-based network service to an electronic device incapable of supporting an IP-based network service, can be executed. According to various embodiments of the present invention, the electronic device may comprise: a memory; a communication module for transmitting and receiving a message; and a processor for, if a non-IP service-based message is received, generating an IP-based message including at least part of the non-IP service-based message, and providing the generated IP-based message.
