An IC label reader comprises an antenna having a first power supply point for power supply and a second power supply point for power supply which substantially form a 90-degree angle, a first emitting unit configured to emit a horizontally polarized wave from the antenna by supplying power to the first power supply point, a second emitting unit configured to emit a perpendicularly polarized wave from the antenna by supplying power to the second power supply point, a third emitting unit configured to emit, from the antenna, a circularly polarized wave generated by synthesizing the horizontally polarized wave and the perpendicularly polarized wave with a phase difference between the horizontally polarized wave and the perpendicularly polarized wave by simultaneously supplying power to the first and the second power supply points, and a switching unit configured to selectively switch the first, the second and the third emitting units. |
