PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent stains of toner on the rear side of a sheet and reduce a time required for switching outputs.SOLUTION: A transfer device according to the present invention includes a first electrode, a second electrode opposite to the first electrode, conveying means, power source means, changing means, and control means. The conveying means conveys a transfer target body to which a toner pattern formed on an image carrier is transferred to a transfer position between the first electrode and the second electrode. When the transfer target body is at the transfer position, the power source means outputs a transfer voltage to the first electrode, and when the transfer target body is not at the transfer position, outputs a voltage with a polarity reverse to that of the transfer voltage to the first electrode. The changing means changes the clearance between the first electrode and the second electrode. When the clearance exceeds a threshold, the control means sets the voltage with the reverse polarity to a small value compared with the case where the clearance is equal to or smaller than the threshold.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6 |
