The invention relates to a method and apparatus for force-cooling food in a compressor refrigeration system in which the compressor supplies coolant for cooling food in an enclosure 710 of the system. The arrangement includes a temperature sensor 716 able to provide a signal indicative of the ambient temperature within the enclosure and a data storage module 718 for storing at least two sets of predefined data values. The first set of predefined values (412 fig 4) simulating a first foodstuff temperature attained within the enclosure under a first operating condition and the second set of predefined values (414 fig 4) simulating a second foodstuff temperature attained within the enclosure under a second operating condition. The arrangement further includes a control system 740 which includes the compressor motor control 750. The motor 720 is driven or stopped based upon the enclosure ambient temperature signal and one of the predefined values, and when the motor is running the controller regulates the voltage applied to the motor to a minimum value which allows sufficient current for synchronous rotation of the motor. Alternatively the invention provides means (510 to 550 fig 5) to determine the predefined values simulating food temperatures by measuring internal and external food temperatures of the foodstuff during an environmental temperature change. |
