The present invention relates to a liquid crystal medium based on a mixture of polar compounds containing the compounds below and, particularly to a display where active or passive matrix is addressed based on VA, PSA, PS-VA, IPS, FFS, PS-IPS and PS-FFS technology and, more desirably, a use of an LC mixture in the optical display for a self-aligning VA mode. The liquid crystal medium comprises one or more compounds represented by the chemical formula 1; and one or more compounds selected from the group of the chemical formula I-A to I-K (chemical formula 2).
