A combination bed apparatus 10,50,70 comprises a support body 12 having at least one pivotally stowable bed 14,52,72 and a vertically movable platform 16, e.g. desk, shelf, work surface, sofa or chair. The apparatus 10,50,70 is operable between a first position where the bed 14,52,72 is in a horizontal deployed position and the platform 16 is in a horizontal stowed position beneath the bed, and a second position where the bed 14,52,72 is in a vertical stowed position and the platform 16 is in a raised horizontal deployed position lying adjacent to the stowed bed. The platform 16 is constrained to be translatably movable relative to the body 12 so that the platform 16 remains substantially horizontal between the first and the second positions with a front edge 38 of the platform 16 moving in a substantially vertical plane 36 between the first and the second positions. Preferably, the bed 14, 52, 72 has a first pivotal connection 21 to the body 12 so that it is pivotable between the vertical stowed position and the horizontal deployed position. The bed may comprise a second bed arranged one above the other, or the bed may be collapsible requiring folding before being stowed. Drive means, locking means and balance means may also be provided. |
