An example medical device system may include a first medical device and a second medical device communicatively coupled to the first medical device. The first medical device may be configured to communicate information to the second medical device in a first communication mode. The first medical device may further be configured to communicate information to the second medical device in a second communication mode after determining that one or more of the communication pulses captured the heart of the patient.

1. A method of communicating information between a plurality of medical devices in a medical device system, the method comprising:
communicating information between a first medical device and a second medical device via conducted communication during each of a plurality of first communication windows; determining whether the conducted communication during one or more of the first communication windows captures a heart of a patient; and if it is determined that the conducted communication during one or more of the first communication windows captured the heart of the patient, communicating information between the first medical device and the second medical device via conducted communication during each of a plurality of second communication windows, wherein the second communication windows are shorter than the first communication windows.
