A bush having securing parts 13, 14, 16 (Fig. 12), an inwardly extending member 17 and a plug receiving portion 19 is crimped around the neck 8 of a bung hole. The plug may be as illustrated in Fig. 15. A tamper-proof metal cap 28 with a diametrical tear strip is placed on the closure prior to the crimping operation. If used with an internally lacquered or lined container the lower portion 51 (Fig. 13) of the plug receiving portion is turned upwardly to press against the base of the plug or to surround the lower wall thereof and with a liquid gasket flowed into the groove 51. The members of the closure may be made of plastics instead of metal, in which case a sealing ring 64 (Fig. 15) is used to clamp the bush 61 to the container neck. No metal cap is used with the plastics closure but the bush has a sealing membrane 74 which may be torn away around a line of weakening 68 using a handle 70. The line of weakening may lie inside the wall of the plug as shown or beneath the said wall when a gasket is placed in the recess 76. The bush may have an inwardly turned lower wall 78 (Fig. 19) adapted to receive a spout 95 which is raised after removal of the plug and secured by co-operation of a groove 80 with a flange 79. The plastics bush is clamped by a metal ring 93 and an additional metal cap 89 seals the opening. The neck closure is crimped by co-operation of an upper pressure pad on the top surface 96 and external clamping arms pressed inwardly by a downwardly moving skirt. No internal pressure pad is necessary since the container wall 4, the member 17 and upper plug surface 22 are in a common strengthening plane. After use the closure may be removed so that the container may be re-used and a fresh closure applied.</p> |
