The present invention relates to a process for manufacturing a steel Yankee cylinder. In the past manufacturing of very large Yankee cylinders with a length of more than 6 meters required very large (high) machining equipment. According to the present invention the Yankee cylinder is welded together from individual pre-or finish-machined cylinder sections. As a result of the process according to the present invention, it is now also possible to produce very large Yankee cylinders with relatively small lathing machines.
