PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector.SOLUTION: A projector comprises an illumination system, a light valve, and an image forming device. The illumination system includes: two spectroscopic units; two wavelength conversion modules; two light sources for emitting a first light flux and a second light flux; and an excitation light source for emitting an excitation light flux. The two spectroscopic units are disposed in a transmission path of the excitation light flux and also disposed in a transmission path of the first light flux. The two wavelength conversion modules convert a portion of the excitation light flux coming from the two spectroscopic units into two conversion light fluxes. The light valve converts the first light flux, the two conversion light fluxes, and the second light flux into an image light flux. The image forming device is disposed in a transmission path of the image light flux.
