1. A method for performing communication in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
identifying, by a user equipment (UE), a transmission mode configured for a serving cell by a base station (BS); identifying, by the UE, an antenna configuration of the BS; determining, by the UE, a number of bits for a Rank Indication (RI) including a number of layers based on a Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) capability reported to the BS by the UE, if the identified transmission mode is a first transmission mode; determining, by the UE, the number of bits for the Rank Indication (RI) including the number of layers based on the antenna configuration, if the identified transmission mode is a second transmission mode; and transmitting, by the UE, information about an RI based on the determined number of bits to the BS.
