Provided is a self-restoring macromolecular material that not only has excellent stress relaxation but that can also be easily restored to an original state, even when damaged or severed. Also provided is a production method for the self-restoring macromolecular material. This self-restoring macromolecular material contains a cross-linked structure (1) that is formed by cross-linking a polymer that includes at least a polyrotaxane molecule (2). The polyrotaxane molecule (2) is formed so as to include a cyclic molecule (21) and a straight-chain molecule (22) that passes through an opening (21a) of the cyclic molecule (21). The cross-linked structure (1) is cross-linked via a reversible bond between the cyclic molecule (21) of the polyrotaxane molecule (2) and a polymer molecule (3) other than the polyrotaxane molecule (2).
