PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for saccharification by which the saccharification of a cellulose-containing substance can efficiently be carried out in a short time by beating treatment.SOLUTION: There is provided the method for saccharifying the cellulose-containing substance characterized by reducing the freeness of the cellulose-containing substance by beating treatment, adding cellulase, and saccharifying the cellulose-containing substance with the cellulase. The method is particularly suitable when kraft pulp is used as the cellulose-containing substance.
