Power-operated sliding door equipment comprises driving means mechanically coupled to one or more sliding doors to open and close the door(s), remote control means connected to the driving means to control the supply of power thereto whereby an operator can actuate the driving means, and local control means adjacent to the door(s) arranged and adapted to control the supply of power to the driving means and to actuate the driving means, the local control means operating independently of fthe remote control means and including means for mechanically uncoupling the driving means from the door(s) whereby the doors can be moved by hand. As shown, a pair of sliding doors 16 is operated by a cable or chain 17 passing round pulleys 8 and 8a, pulley 8 being driven a rack 9 and pinion 10 mechanism. Normally, a pawl 5 engages a notch 18 in rod 7 and power is applied by an electric motor to the pawl, or a movable frame supporting it, so as to move the rod axially. The motor may be controlled from a remote panel and also by switch contacts 3 operated by a first cam 2 on cam shaft 19 which can be rotated by handle 1. Contacts 3 are in a power supply circuit independent of the remote panel control. Normally, handle 1 is in a vertical position, contacts 3 are open, and only the remote control is operative. If the remote control fails, handle 1 is turned to position 1b (2), closing contacts 3 and the door operating motor is energised. If the power supply and remote control fail, the handle 1 is turned to position 1c (4) causing pawl 5 to be disengaged from notch 18 on rod 7 by action of cam 4. Manual force may then be applied to either door to open the doors. Locking means for locking the doors in the open position may take the form of a plunger 12. Under normal conditions of door operation, the plunger is held away from rod 7 against pressure of spring 13 by cam 14 on shaft 19. But when the handle is moved to position 1c (4) (5) and the doors are disengaged from the drive, then the profile of cam 14 allows the plunger to engage with rack 9.
