An assembly process for assembling portion of an aircraft airframe (4, Figure 1), typically an aft fuselage section, comprises providing two assemblies, each including a part (6, Figure 2) of the airframe attached to a reference structure 64. Each reference structure 64 is received by a receptacle (154, Figure 15), and the receptacles are moved using an actuator to move the first and second airframe parts into a predetermined configuration. The airframe parts are then fixedly attached. The reference structures 64 comprise protrusions 64a each having a shank and a head intended to cooperate with a keyhole aperture (156, Figure 15) in a receptacle. Optionally, each airframe part may comprise components, such as frames, spars and longerons. |
