[Problem] To provide an optical connector whereby penetration of body fluids or foreign matter can be suppressed and reliability of optical communication can be ensured. [Solution] A plug (4) is an optical connector for forming a mechanical and optical connection with a receptacle (5), a portion of an optical fiber (3A1) for transmitting an optical signal being provided in the interior. The plug (4) is provided with a tubular plug-side first enclosure (41) for covering the optical signal emission end of the optical fiber (3A1), the optical fiber (3A1) being inserted into the plug-side first enclosure (41). The distal-end side of the plug-side first enclosure (41) for connecting to the receptacle (5) is sealed by a plug-side cover member (42) which is translucent to the optical signal.
