1,127,199. Stocks for weapons. A. W. HANSON. 19 Dec., 1966 [12 Jan., 1966], No. 56683/66. Heading F3C. [Also in Divisions A3, A6 and B4] Articles which come into pressure contact with the body, e.g. gun stocks and pistol grips, are provided with pads consisting of an envelope 11 containing a high viscosity, low coefficient of expansion material 12 which is resistant to flow in response to instantaneously applied pressure, the material 12 being a formable stable material having a minimum yield point of at least 4 grams per square centimetre and a viscosity between 100,000 and 40,000,000 poise in the temperature range 0‹ to 80‹ F. The envelope 11 is made from a material inert to the formable stable material 12, e.g. leather or polyvinyl chloride. The material 12 is preferably a mixture of 5 to 25 weight per cent polyisobutylene, 25 to 40 per cent of a neutral blending stock hydrocarbon oil and 50 to 70 per cent filler. The material 12 responds to instantaneously applied pressure in the same manner as a solid, but responds to continuously applied pressure as a liquid so that the pads 12 can be shaped to suit a particular user, but will not lose their shape on storage.
|
