<p>The invention relates to a device for laying at least one strand (12) in a piece of land (32), preferably close to the surface of said piece of land, and specifically in a sports or leisure facility or in farm land, which device comprises an excavating device (18) for producing a dimensionally stable, slit-shaped cavity (38) in the piece of land (32) and making available the resulting excavated material (58); a strand introducing device (20) by means of which at least one strand (12) can be introduced into the cavity (38) downstream of the excavating device (18) in relation to a working direction (30) of said device (10; 120; 140); and a device (22) for returning the excavated material, which comprises or forms at least one return element (80, 82, 84) for excavated material (58), wherein the excavated material (58) can be returned to the cavity (38) along the at least one return element (80, 82, 84) downstream of the strand introducing device (20) in the working direction (30) thereof.
