The present invention relates to a method and device for controlling connection state of a terminal for providing the method and device effectively operating a communications module to reduce battery consumption of a communications terminal such as smartphone and machine type communications (MTC) terminal. More specifically, the present invention relates to the method and device for controlling the connection state of the terminal in a communications mode consuming less power for minimizing the battery consumption of the terminal by providing information to change the state of the communications module of the terminal according to a traffic transmission pattern of the terminal and the network.
