PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect an object existing around the forward side and backward side of a vehicle at a low cost.SOLUTION: A surrounding object detection system 100 to be mounted in a vehicle includes: surrounding information acquisition devices 2a-1 and 2a-2 that set a part of the space around the vehicle as a detection range, and acquire distance information to a detection object existing within the detection range; and a detection range switch mechanisms, for example transport racks 3a-1 and 3a-2, for switching the direction of the detection range of the surrounding information acquisition devices to the forward side or the backward side of the vehicle, on the basis of the forward/backward information indicating whether the vehicle travels forward or backward. |
