1,157,616. Trim panel for car door. MARLEY TILE CO. Ltd. 25 July, 1966 [13 Aug., 1965], No. 34826/65. Heading B7J. [Also in Division B5] Flexible sheeting, e.g. of polyethylene, polypropylene or polyvinyl chloride, having a backing of semi-rigid polyurethane foam is produced by placing the flexible sheeting in a mould, which may have been heated, e.g. to 40-50‹ C., applying a polyurethane foam-forming composition to the sheeting, closing the mould and expanding said composition, thereby forcing the sheeting into the shape of the mould and curing to bond the sheeting to the foam. The flexible sheeting preferably has a thickness <0À1 inch, preferably 0À010-0À020 inch. The composition may comprise isocyanate and polyetherpolyol to produce a polyurethane polyether foam or di-isocyanate and polyolpolyester to produce a polyurethane polyester foam, and may be expanded to a foam at least 0À1 inch thick, e.g. 0À125-0À5 inch. The edges of the flexible sheeting may be held, preferably loosely so as to permit some movement during foaming. A rigid or semi-rigid backing, e.g. hardboard, may be applied to the foam on the opposite side to the flexible sheeting, either by incorporation thereof in the mould during foaming or by adhesive subsequently. The panels produced are suitable for car-door panels. |
