Disclosed are a method and apparatus for wavelength initialization and device registration in a passive optical network. The method comprises: receiving a downlink frame sent by an optical line terminal (OLT) on a downlink wavelength channel, wherein the downlink frame carries a field used for indicating downlink wavelength channel information, and the downlink wavelength channel information comprises a type of the downlink wavelength channel; and determining a target downlink wavelength of an optical network unit (ONU) according to the type of the downlink wavelength channel, wherein a type of a target downlink wavelength channel corresponding to the target downlink wavelength matches a device type of the ONU. By means of the method and apparatus in the embodiments of the present invention, information for indicating a channel type or a device type is carried during information exchange between an optical line terminal and an optical network unit, so that a passive optical network system to which a channel or device belongs can be identified in a case in which multiple passive optical network systems coexist, and thus wavelength initialization and device registration can be accurately performed and interference with other devices can be avoided. |
