PURPOSE: An array substrate for a fringe field switching mode liquid crystal display device and a method for fabricating the same are provided to reduce poor contact by realizing upper side contact not a side contact between upper and lower metal layers through contact holes. CONSTITUTION: A common electrode is formed on the upper side of a protective layer(160) by a transparent conductive material. The common electrode corresponds to the pixel region. A gate sub pad electrode contacts the upper side of the gate pad electrode through gate pad contact holes. A data sub pad electrode(174) contacts the upper side of an etch barrier pattern(157) through data pad contact holes(164).
