<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem wherein there is the case in which an effective searching index cannot be attached by only extracting a character code from a text object within PDL data. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus for attaching related metadata to image data which is obtained by rendering image data read by an image reading device and PDL data transmitted from a host and storing them includes: a dividing means for performing area division relating to the image data after rendering the PDL data so as to include it in every object within the image data; a determining means for determining a character object from among areas divided by the dividing means; a character recognizing means for extracting character code information by performing a character recognition process relating to the character object determined by the determining means; and a metadata attaching means for attaching metadata including the character code information extracted by the character recognizing means to the image data.
