The invention relates to a method for jitter buffer control in a device and a corresponding device implementing the method. The method includes the steps of monitoring a margin m of the jitter buffer, comparing the margin m with a reference margin m r to calculate a control entity E; discarding old frames; setting (×) or clearing a discard marker for a number of future frames (P; I) in the jitter buffer in dependence of the control entity E; for each frame in an interval T M , if the discard marker is not set, send the frame to a rendering device, else discard the frame. The invention enables control of the quality of saved and viewed multimedia streams in dependence of the currently occupied capacity of the device. Also, the invention relates to a corresponding device and computer program product.
