METHOD OF MANUFACTURING A DISPLAY DEVICE

A method for manufacturing a display device is provided to enhance reliability by shielding moisture or oxygen as a cause of characteristic deterioration of an electroluminescence device without enlarging an electroluminescence display device. An insulating layer(12) including an organic resin material is formed on a first substrate. An opening is formed in the insulating layer. A protective layer(14) is formed in the opening. A display unit having a light emitting device including an organic material is formed on the insulating layer. A sealant(13) for surrounding a periphery of the display unit comes in contact with the opening and the protective layer. The first substrate and the second substrate are bonded with each other by using the sealant. The periphery of the display unit includes a first region and a second region. The opening is formed in the insulating layer of the first region. An external edge part of the insulating layer in the second region is covered with the protective layer or the sealant.
