Disclosed herein are a composition for prevention or treatment of gastrointestinal damage comprising Substance-P as an active ingredient, a use of Substance-P for the preparation of a medicament for prevention or treatment of gastrointestinal damage, and a method for prevention or treatment of gastrointestinal damage comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of Substance-P to a mammal. Substance-P prevents apoptosis of gastrointestinal cells and promotes regeneration of damaged tissues. Therefore, the composition of the present invention comprising Substance-P as an active ingredient is therapeutically effective for treatment and/or prevention of gastrointestinal damage.
