摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser device whose average power output is not restricted by thermal stress, to meet a thermal limit of solid laser, and to achieve high average power. SOLUTION: A laser device (10) mounted with a chamber (22) having an inner region and a gain medium, and usable as an oscillator or an amplifier includes solid elements (14) containing active laser ions distributed within the volume. Cooling fluid (16) flows around the solid elements and a semiconductor laser diode (18) provides optical pump radiation into the volume of the laser chamber (12) such that laser emission from the device passes through the gain medium (14) and the fluid (16). The laser device (10) provides advantages of solid-state gain medium laser (such as diode-pumping, high power density), but enables operation at higher average power and beam quality than would be achievable from a pure solid-state medium.
