PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a box type microscopic apparatus capable of easily placing a sample container at an optimum position without adjusting the position of the sample container on a stage when changing the sample container with inexpensive and simple constitution, and easily and rapidly changing the sample container. SOLUTION: The box type microscopic apparatus which includes the stage 12, a microscope and a housing 20, and where the housing 20 is equipped with a fixed housing 21 and a movable housing 22 capable of moving to be openable/closable relative to the fixed housing 21 includes: a sample container positioning means 50 fixing the sample container 40 placed on the stage 12 at the fixed position on the stage 12; and a positioning release means 60 for actuating the sample container positioning means 50 when the movable housing 22 moves in a closing direction, and releases the positioning of the sample container 40 relative to the stage 12 by the sample container positioning means 50 when the movable housing 22 is opened.
