An air inlet or outlet plate for a room or aircraft cabin which does not produce a draught comprises one or more members 6 having apertures of less than 0À5 mm., there being at least 100 apertures to each square centimetre. The plates may be of metal, a plastic, a combination of metal and a plastic, or a ceramic material. The apertures are formed by an electron beam. The members may have connections 8 for an air supply or exhaust pipe, holes 14 by which the members are secured to a supporting structure and may have holes interconnecting adjacent members (Fig. 5, not shown). The perforations may be in a foil covering a grating on the face of each member (Fig. 4, not shown). A sound insulation and heat insulation layer of a foam material may be incorporated. The air supply may be heated, chilled or oxygenated.
