PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain a combustion condition in a combustion chamber appropriate irrespective of compression ratio in a variable compression ratio internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: Since height of the compression chamber is reduced to make a shape of the combustion chamber flat under a condition where compression ratio is high, value provided by dividing surface area of the combustion chamber by volume (hereafter S/V ratio) gets large. As a result, there is a risk of drop of thermal efficiency. On the other hand, change area of compression ratio is divided and control to intensify tumble flow is executed in a third area where compression ratio is high. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
